Pennsylvania's Best Waterfalls

Pennsylvania has hundreds of waterfalls — the greatest concentration in Ricketts Glen, the Pocono Mountains, and the Laurel Highlands.

Ganoga Falls (94 ft) — Ricketts Glen SP
The tallest waterfall in Pennsylvania — a 94-foot plunge of Kitchen Creek over a ledge of Pocono Formation sandstone. The falls are the crown of the Ricketts Glen Falls Trail (22 named waterfalls in 7 miles). Old-growth hemlocks frame the falls; the surrounding gorge walls are draped in moss and fern.

Dingmans Falls (130 ft) — Delaware Water Gap NRA
The tallest waterfall in Pennsylvania accessible by a paved, accessible trail (0.5 miles from the parking area) — a two-tiered cascade of Silverthread Falls (80 ft) and the main Dingmans Falls (80 ft) in a hemlock gorge near the Delaware River. The trail is wheelchair accessible to within view of the lower falls.

Bushkill Falls (Pocono Mountains)
Called the "Niagara of Pennsylvania" — a series of eight waterfalls on Bushkill Creek in a private park near the Delaware Water Gap. The Main Falls drop 100 feet; the secondary falls and the gorge rim trails extend the visit. The park is privately operated (admission fee) and well-maintained.

Ohiopyle Falls (Ohiopyle SP)
An 18-foot ledge drop of the Youghiogheny River through a sandstone channel — the full volume of the "Yough" (a major river) creates a thunderous rapid. Viewing platforms on both banks. The natural waterslides on Meadow Run just upstream (a smooth bedrock flume) are a summer favorite.

Cucumber Falls (Ohiopyle SP)
A 30-foot plunge of Cucumber Run into the Youghiogheny Gorge — accessible via a short trail from the Cucumber Falls parking area. The falls are in a hemlock ravine immediately above the Yough River.
