Georgia's Most Scenic Overlooks and Viewpoints

Georgia's best views are concentrated in the Blue Ridge Mountains, though the coast and the Piedmont offer distinct landscapes worth seeking out.

Brasstown Bald Observation Deck (4,784 ft)
The highest point in Georgia offers a 360-degree observation deck with views into four states. The Appalachian Trail and the Southern Blue Ridge unfold to the north; the Georgia Piedmont rolls to the south. The deck is glassed-in and accessible year-round, but the summit road closes in winter after snowfall.

Black Rock Mountain State Park Summit Overlook
At 3,640 feet — the highest state park summit in Georgia — Black Rock Mountain offers views across the deeply folded Blue Ridge to the east and north. The park sits on the Eastern Continental Divide: rainfall on one side flows to the Atlantic, on the other to the Gulf of Mexico.

Cloudland Canyon Overlook
Standing at the rim of Cloudland Canyon and looking 1,000 feet straight down to the canyon floor and the two waterfalls below is one of the most dramatic views in the state. Best in early morning fog, when the canyon fills with mist.

Blood Mountain Summit
At 4,458 feet, the highest point on the Appalachian Trail in Georgia. The summit bald offers views west across the Etowah River watershed toward the Cohutta Mountains. Most accessible via the 4.4-mile Freeman Trail from Vogel State Park.

Rabun Bald Fire Tower
The restored fire tower atop Rabun Bald (4,696 ft) gives views east into South Carolina and the Chattooga River gorge, north into North Carolina, and west across the Blue Ridge interior. The tower is one of the few remaining staffed-era fire towers in the Georgia mountains.

Stone Mountain Park
The bare dome of Stone Mountain — the world's largest exposed granite monadnock — rises 825 feet above the surrounding piedmont. The Summit Skyride or the Walk-Up Trail reach the top, where views extend across metropolitan Atlanta on clear days. The mountain is also home to the largest relief carving in the world (Confederate memorial).
