Best Cities and Towns in Hawaii

The best places in Hawaii are not always the biggest or most visited. Some towns matter for beauty, some for practicality, some for food and culture, and some because they are the best base for a particular island experience. The state works through a network of island-specific centers rather than one universal model of urban success.

Honolulu

Honolulu is the most important city in the state by a wide margin. It is the capital, the main port and airport hub, and the place where politics, tourism, military presence, and urban life all converge. Whether or not it is someone's favorite, it is the state's central city.

Hilo
